Great Gift January 6, 2009 T. Cordova (California) I purchased this for my Dad who was a huge fan of the show. He was delighted to receive this for Christmas. Arrived in a really cool bag. He is still raving about it.
Great Purchase December 8, 2008 William Hoffknecht (Fernley, NV) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
So Northern Exposure was one of the all-time great television series ever. Teleplays of episodes have and are still used in some drama classes for character writing. Also, it had the rare achievement of winning not only one, but two Peabody awards. This box set covers all seasons of the show with special features. The case is a soft velvety type and the dics fit nicely into them. On top of all that, it is so much cheaper than buying all of the seasons separately. I recommend this highly if you are into creative television, great writing, and interesting direction. Mind you, the series kind of dies off near the end, but the characters are strong enough to support it for the most part. At least they ended the show before it got really bad, you know?
Still Not The Original Series. No Original Music = Dealbreaker November 26, 2008 T. Wilkinson (Pacific Northwest) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Those who watched and loved NX on TV know how integral the music was to the story. Each episode came with music as unique and endearing as the writing. These DVDs are but a mere shadow of the original production. When I heard about this re-release box set of the entire series, I got excited . . . until I learned nothing had changed with the audio. I can't imagine the royalty situation would be so difficult to fix, but at this late date I doubt anyone will ever release the true originals in DVD format. For me, these DVDs might as well have been overdubbed in Chinese.
Characters, storylines still great but missing original music November 17, 2008 Nada (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
NE is arguably the best tv series ever created so even with the music tampering I have to give it five stars. Every character is multifaceted and distinctive. Even the guest stars were carefully chosen to fit in with Cicely's quirky inhabitants (my favorites are Adam and Eve and Officer Semanski). The original music was a perfect fit as well and its a shame its been replaced. Universal is out of touch with customers on this one and I'd gladly pay the extra bucks to have everything intact. The excellent moosechick.com site dedicated to all things NE offers more insight into the music situation. For those who don't mind the substitutions this set is fine -you still have the great story lines and characters. Thankfully, for the rest of us there are some fully original episodes still available on VHS tape.
One of my favorite TV series ever November 17, 2008 Holly Ledden 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got the complete series set as a birthday gift and was so excited. Yes, like others have said, the original music is gone. Even without it it's still great TV and I'm still loving it all over again.
