Amazon.com The colorful cast of characters from Cicely, Alaska, returns for a new set of adventures in Northern Exposure: The Complete Second Season. While much of the first season was devoted to establishing the plot, each of the seven episodes in season 2 helps us to know the offbeat ensemble of Cicely residents a little better. Dr. Joel Fleischman (Rob Morrow), the New York urbanite stationed in small-town Alaska to pay off his medical-school tuition, still complains constantly about his assignment, but it's clear the town's growing on him when he passes up an opportunity to return home (if only temporarily). We learn from town patriarch Maurice (Barry Corbin) that retired astronauts have groupies, and when a beautiful woman steals the voice of DJ "Chris in the Morning" (John Corbett), it's no huge surprise when the long-deceased spirit of "One Who Waits" provides Chris with an ancient Indian cure. But it's the chemistry between Joel and Maggie (Janine Turner) that really makes the series sizzle. The season is book-ended by a pair of breakups that leave first Joel, and then Maggie single, clearing the way for the romance to come in later seasons. The season includes "Spring Break," one of the best-loved episodes from the series. With the impending arrival of spring, libidos run amok, a wave of petty crime hits the town, and the men in town blow off steam au naturale in the annual "Running of the Bulls." Season 2's packaging and extras are virtually identical to those from season 1. The two-disc set comes sheathed in a collectible mini zippered nylon "parka," and each episode includes deleted scenes and bloopers. There are no retrospectives or interviews with cast and crew, and no printed materials accompany the discs. --Shane Burnett
Description This 7-time Emmy Award-winning series is a remarkable blend of quirky humor and heartwarming storytelling. With an ensemble cast including Rob Morrow (Quiz Show), John Corbett (TV's Sex and the City, My Big Fat Greek Wedding) and the beautiful Janine Turner (Cliffhanger), Season Two takes us back to the slightly bizarre, yet charming, little logging town in Alaska. Relive the Complete Second Season of the show TV Guide calls "...one of television's truly fine series."

The Best Season of the Series January 27, 2008 John P Bernat (Kingsport, TN USA) Despite shortcomings in the DVD set, this was by far the best season of this most memorable series. Here, you really get to know the characters and understand how they got to be who they were. My favorite is the "duel" episode. Breaking down the fourth wall was disconcerting, all right, but a worthy investment. Heck, if it avoided death or jail for Maurice, it was more than worth it. And I just love his car...

I have always been a N.E. junkie. I taped the show on VHS right down to the last 110th, even after Rob Morrow left. The tapes were kept in a cool, dark place. I made a grand gesture in buying the whole new DVD set released by Universal, and suddenly realized, when Maggie opened the door to Chris, to give him his voice back, that the sound track was not the original. The original was a an old French version of "Beyond the Sea". I was outraged. Music heightens a scene. Can you imagine "Dances with Wolves" with inane scoring? I wonder what David Shwartz thinks??? I think a law suit should be instituted against universal. The DVD covers should have clear statements that the music has been altered. The worst part is that I tossed my VHS tapes in the recycle bin.
Where's the rest of the season ? November 29, 2007 M. Herr (Walnut Creek, CA USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This release is a gyp ! They did not include all episodes from Season 2. First episodes of Season 3 refer back to the closing episodes of Season 2, and discuss the things that happened there that we never got to see. What happened?
The Best Series Ever November 7, 2007 C. Bolinder 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Northern Exposure is the one T.V. Series that my wife and I will watch--on DVDs--over and over again. All considered, it's the very best.
Altered yes,but I like it too October 1, 2007 Wade A. Hampton (Santa Maria,CA USA) Now,I just ordered it,so I can't say weither or not the music and other things are altered. But from the reviews I've read it must be true.I have to say that the company who released these DVDs had it all wrong.I own Season One,so I know. They doctored the outside of it by putting this stupid jacket around it.Like anybody gonna wedge that in with the rest of thier DVD's.And yes I hate any DVDs that are double-sided,because they are prone to scratching and fingerprints. And the menus are devoid of any music or interactivity. And the lack of extra contenet is sad, because the stories and triumpths this wonderful series need to be told again. BUT-If you are a true fan of Northern Exposure and have fond memories of it like I do these facts will matter little in your decision to buy the Seasons of this series. This show makes me feel good when I watch it and I can relate to the Charecters and feel like I really know them in real life.Even if they're only seven episodes, the episodes themselves and the selections they give you are well worth the ones you don't get. I can only recommend these DVDs highly to hardcore Northern Exposure Fans like myself.Because even if we feel like you did get jipped alittle, the joy of owning these episodes far exceeds the overall presentation of the DVDs themselves.YES they should have spent more time on polishing the presentaion and getting licsening for the music(why we'll never know),but again this matters little compare to the episodes themselves. So,if you're a true fan of one of the best Television Series ever made buy this season at a reasonable price range.DO NOT buy them at the stores.Buy them here. For everyone else you might be disapointed in the presentation of the DVDs and will be discouraged to purchase any of them further. All I have to say is that I am excited to have this collection and will continue to buy them all.
