The neat thing about reruns for us is that because it is old, somehow it is easier to suspend reality for a while. I don't know why.

3 out of 5 stars Magnum Rocks!   January 22, 2008

This DVD was okay, but Magnum's 1982-83 Season wasn't as good as the 1st Season, 2nd Season, 6th Season, 7th Season, or 8th Season, because the Third Season of Magnum wasn't quite as funny as the first 2 seasons, plus I had noticed that on the Closed Captioning of each 3rd Season episode of this Magnum, P.I. DVD had left out a lot of the words that were actually said and they had revised the way the words were actually said on each episode, unlike it was on the DVD box sets of Season 1, 2, 6, and 7.

In addition to that, Magnum's 3rd Season wasn't as sophisticated as the 1st, 2nd, 6th, 7th, or 8th Season either.

Therefore, Magnum's 1982-83 Season kind of lacked some of the more sophisticated traits that all of those other seasons had.

So the creator(Donald Bellasario) should've done better on Magnum's Third Season, especially more like he did with the first 2 seasons.

On the other hand, Magnum's 1982-83 Season had some cool episodes too like "By It's Cover", "Mixed Doubles", which were my 2 favorite episodes of the 3rd Season, especially since they had an episode with Stuart Margolin, which played Rockford's ex-con buddy(Angel Martin) on THE ROCKFORD FILES, which was kind of intriguing, since Stuart Margolin's guest starred character on the "By Its Cover" episode was similar to his character on Rockford along with the fact that MAGNUM, P.I. was a private detective show just like THE ROCKFORD FILES was.

It was also interesting seeing Ernest Borgnine in the "Mr. White Death" episode before his days on AIRWOLF amd watching cast collide on the "KI's Don't Lie" episode when Magnum(Tom Selleck) ends up teaming up with Rick and A.J. Simon(Gerald McRaney, Jameson Parker) from the detective drama SIMON & SIMON to solve a bizarre mystery on a curse plaguing the islands of Hawaii along with the fact that SIMON & SIMON was kind of a spin-off of MAGNUM, PI.

This was also the season when Col. Buck Green(Lance LeGault) joins the cast as a part-time co-star on MAGNUM in the "Did You See The Sunrise" episode along with the fact that Col. Green was the same guy who played Col.Decker on THE A-TEAM.

I also liked the episodes "The Arrow That Is Not Aimed", "Birdman Of Budapest", and "Forty Years From Sand Island", since they bring up things from Magnum and Higgins past and bring in some unusual intriguing things to those episodes like trying to retrieve a stolen priceless Japanese Picaso plate in the "The Arrow That Is Not Aimed" episode along with the fact that I got a kick out of Magnum and Higgins being called "Magnum-San" and "Higgins-San" by Magnum's client(Mako).

The "Forty Years From Sand Island" episode was also an intriguing episode, especially when someone tries to kill Magnum and Higgins for revenge, due to some Americans torturing and killing a Japanese man while some foreigners were held captive at a prison camp in the past.

Additionally, the Third Season seemed to talk about Magnum's days in Vietnam the most more than any other season of MAGNUM, P.I. throughout Magnum's whole 8-year run on CBS for some reason.

In addition, this season also takes me all the way back to memory lane when MATT HOUSTON came out on ABC for the first time giving MAGNUM some interesting competition, especially since MATT HOUSTON was a very popular private detective show back then along with the fact that MATT HOUSTON had reminded so many people of MAGNUM, since there was obviously a slight resemblence between Magnum(Tom Selleck) and Houston(Lee Horseley), except Houston was huskier than Magnum was, plus I noticed that MATT HOUSTON had a lot of the same people who've guest starred on MAGNUM, P.I. as well.

It was also interesting seeing
-John McCook in "The Big Blow" episode before his days on BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL and THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS
-Joanna Kerns in the "Two Birds Of A Feather" episode before her days on GROWING PAINS
-Peter Brown in the "Heal Thyself" episode before his days on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL and YOUNG & THE RESTLESS
-Bill Lucking in the "Two Birds Of A Feather" episode during his Col.Lynch days on THE A-TEAM
-James Whitmore, Jr. before his co-starring days as Hunter & McCall's doofus fellow officer(Sgt. Bernie Terwilliger)
-Stu Margolin in the "By Its Cover" episode after his Angel Martin days on THE ROCKFORD FILES
-Nick Hammond in the "Foiled Again" episode after his days on "Spiderman" the series

This season also takes me all the way back to memory lane during the recession we had back in 1981-1982 during Ronald Reagan's presidency.

So now that Universal has released all 8 seasons of MAGNUM, P.I. on DVD, I'm hoping it will inspire Warner Bros. to finally get the private detective drama MATT HOUSTON released on DVD, since I've been dying for MATT HOUSTON to be released on DVD for nearly 4 years now along with the fact that MATT HOUSTON was in competition with MAGNUM throughout MATT HOUSTON's whole 3-year run on ABC, since Houston(Lee Horseley) was a semi-carbon copy of Magnum(Tom Selleck) along with a slight resemblence, except Houston was a very fortunate rich man living high on the hog who was never broke, unlike Magnum.

This one's worth it guys. Great DVD transfer, good menu and great packaging. Very impressed with the quality of some of the shows. (Not all of them are good) Great show too. Imagine driving around Hawaii in a Ferrarri with loads of girls in bikinis all over the islands. Wouldn't mind his job at all...

Great show and great quality. You will want to watch this series more than once.... (I'll bet you do too)

Do yourself a favour, you won't be sorry.
