Dreaming of better times.... December 7, 2008 Movie Maker (Alexandria, VA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Season 9 of DALLAS is a must have - it is a true snapshot of the early to mid-80's. The storyline is great, if a bit over the top. The writing was excellent, and seeing the episodes back to back you can appreciate that the writers were truly telling a long-term story. (compare this to the endless Law and Order and CSI shows that we have now...) DALLAS always had a big budget, and a huge cast- this was the centerpiece of the CBS schedule. They were in a bit of a war with ABC's DYNASTY, and upped the glitz factor this season. ABC had Nolan Miller, so LORIMAR hired (Bill) TRAVILLA to costume the cast. TRAVILLA had a spectacular career in film, dressing and creating classic looks for many stars. TRAVILLA also was the designer for Knots Landing and Falcon Crest, but clearly saved the best for the DALLAS cast. Some reviewers have been critical of the Marinos storyline, in particular the lovely Barbara Carrera as Angelica Nero. She was cast as an ultra-vixen, and a seriously smart woman. She was just as tough (if not more) than JR. As the story goes on, Angelica becomes truly evil, is given a rest for a few episodes, and then comes back for the final few episodes to cause havoc (and eliminate a few guest stars) for the DALLAS cast. This season is a keeper, and will be enjoyed by all-- particularly those who did not see it the 1st time around! You will LOVE this!

ATTENTION DALLAS + KNOTS LANDING FANS: HELP NEEDED!! October 25, 2008 Pat (England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have just read the piece by Scott Zuncic re KNOTS LANDING and FALCON CREST. Please, please will you help a desperately disappointed fan in the UK who was an avid viewer of Dallas, Knots Landing etc. the first time round and who wants to collect the entire KNOTS LANDING series but cannot because it is not produced in Region 2 format. The first series - which I bought in Region 1 format - played on my multi-region player but since then DALLAS 9 and DYNASTY 2 and 3 (both Region 1 editions)will not. They are doing something differently so that these series cannot be viewed in Europe. Knots Landing sales in the UK would be great, I am sure, as would Dynasty and Falcon Crest. PLEASE would you USA fans add all the pressure you can to enable these series to be viewed in other parts of the world. If they cannot restore the ability for Region 1 discs to be viewed on multi-region players, then PLEASE, PLEASE will they release them in formats appropriate for England and other world regions. The sales would balloon. Fingers crossed for your help! Thank you!
Dallas:Season 9:Pam's Dream Is A Nightmare At Times October 20, 2008 Gregory Shanley (Scotland) I have to say I love Dallas but found this season a bit hard going at times,Patrick Duffy's Bobby is sorely missed, the glances between Bobby and his ex wife Pam(Victoria Principal)were what kept fans glued to Dallas over the years, yearning for them to get togethor again. Barbara Bel Geddes makes a welcome return as Miss Ellie, its interesting to find out in the documentary on this DVD,"Dallas:Seasons of Change" that when Barbara Bel Geddes after qutting over a pay deal, asked for her role back, when Donna Reed was announced as her replacement, was told it was too late. This turned into a disaster for Dallas,Donna Reed was so different from the orginal Miss Ellie, more glamarous and not as Mumsy as the orginal, that Miss Reed was dropped after one season,BBG was brought back and Lorimar had to pay Miss Reed a lot of money after she won a court case against them and then sadly died. Special praise belongs to Linda Gray's Sue-Ellen who goes to hell and back, literally ending up on skid row,Sue-Ellens's role really is increased to make up for Patrick Duffy's absence and Linda Gray raises to the occassion. Susan Howard also excels as Donna Krebbs, she discovers, she is carrying a Down Syndrome child, which she miscarries, she and Ray(Steve Kanaly)then adopt a deaf boy, only for all this to be wiped clean, when its all revealed as a bad dream by Pam. Victoria Principal as Pam,is great throughout, she has a way of looking at J.R. with hatred,no-one else in the show can match, her loss at the end of the following season,a real blow to Dallas and to me,it wasn't the same without Pam around. Dallas does turn into sort of Dynasty with the arrival of evil superbitch Angelica Nero,(Barbara Carrera)whose OTT outfits make Joan Colins'Alexis look tame! The storyline of Jack(Dack Rambo)set to impersonate a Greek shipping tycoon, goes on and on,and the sight of Larry Hagman in another OTT carnival outfit, must have been the time Larry Hagman said "Bring Back Bobby!" The picture quality of this season isn't very good compared to the previous two seasons and that is one reason I've not given this season five stars, also the OTT Angelica storyline. Highlights though are Mark Graison(John Beck)returning form the dead and the welcome reappearance of Sue-Ellen's mother Patrica Shepherd, veteran actress Martha Scott, playing against type as the scheming, power hungry, mother from hell, unlike her sweet character as Steve Austens' mother,Helen,on "The Six Million Dollar Man" and "The Bionic Woman". One storyline that reappears next season is the mysterious old man working on the ranch,Ben in the dream season Wes in the next season,is it Jock? I wasn't a fan of the dream season first time round, but I welcome Bobby's return next season, hey this can only be Dallas!

I am collecting the complete series of Dallas and to date I have not had a chance to watch it. I'm sure it is just as exciting as the previous season series. Thank you.
